A Crown Worthy to Be Worn
Some years ago, my twin sisters, Geneva and Perrena, gifted me a beautiful, jewel-encrusted copper crown. They gave it to me during a season when others had intentionally tried to diminish my presence—especially my visibility and my voice.
Since I was in my mid-twenties, I have worn some type of headwear to honor my bEARTHday. But this crown is one I cherish more than all the others.
This crown reminds me that I deserve to be seen for the beauty I share with others.
This crown reminds me that my imperfections are my perfections.
This crown reminds me of the value that DNA doesn't designate family—only kinship.
This crown reminds me that if you put good things into the atmosphere, they will come back to you.
So, if you see me wearing my crown on my July bEARTHday, throughout the month of July, or on any other day, smile and wave—or just keep it moving.
Because this crown is worthy of me wearing it.
